Bret Michaels’ Girlfriend Says Hemorrhage Brought Them Closer

That first ultrasound is one of the most memorable and exciting moments of your pregnancy. But how many more times will you get a glimpse of your baby in utero? By Jen Cutts July 3, Next to delivery, ultrasound scans are one of the most anticipated milestones of a pregnancy. For many, seeing that black-and-white blob is the moment their impending parenthood starts to feel real. But how many ultrasounds will you get over the next nine months? And is there such a thing as too many? Ultrasound technicians create an image of your baby by pointing sound waves at soft tissues in your body using a handheld probe that is either inserted into your vagina or a transducer that is rubbed over your belly. The waves that bounce back are translated into a picture by the imaging technology. Midwives and doctors use those images to monitor things like how the baby is growing or to look at the health of the uterus, says Jasmin Tecson, a registered midwife who has been practising for almost 13 years with Sages-Femmes Rouge Valley Midwives in Scarborough, Ont.

Every year, 2. Yet despite its seemingly homogenous architecture, the abbey, which was founded in the 8th century by Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, and became a powerful Benedictine monastery in the 10th century, is a structural kaleidoscope. It took more than a thousand years, and layer upon layer of constructions, demolitions and reconstructions to make it what it is today—a historical conundrum! However, it was only two decades ago that scientists, mainly historians and archaeologists, began to explore the monument dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel.

The hundred or so bricks analyzed in the s using three different techniques— carbon Fermer Used only for organic materials, carbon makes it possible to date the charcoal encased in the ancient mortar. The bricks of the chapel Notre Dame Sous Terre, the oldest part of the monastery, have been dated to the 10th century. On the Mont Saint Michel, even the names of the edifices can be confusing.

Perhaps the most impressive of the many architectural wonders of the Mont Saint Michel is the magnificent abbey church that stands at its peak, dating back to the 11th century after the founding of the Benedictine monastery—even though the rock bed at the hilltop does not exceed 10 meters in length. Georadar unveiled the secret of the Gothic crypt under the choir of the abbey church: its pillars are Romanesque and were sheathed for reinforcement in the 15th century.

One of them, the Crypt of the Massive Pillars, has long been a source of fascination for researchers.

A tiny island off the Cornish coast with its own castle is on the hunt for a new head gardener. St Michael’s Mount sits in Mount’s Bay, metres from the Cornish mainland town of Marazion and is accessible by boat or a cobbled pathway at low tide. It boasts a castle straight out of a fairytale, medieval monastery and fortress, a port and a beautiful sub-tropical garden that needs a new caretaker. The perfect candidate will need to be “hands-on”, have “a good head for heights” and the agility of a “mountain goat”, according to the National Trust website , because they’ll need to abseil down the side of the castle to tend to the steep terraced beds perched just above the sea.

In return, the new head gardener will be given a house on the island becoming part of a “friendly island community population” of around 30 people who live there full-time. Exotic plants abound, including the Medicago plant which appeared in the first Lady St Levan’s wedding bouquet. She was a member of the Aubyn family who still live in the castle, working closely with the National Trust to preserve St Michael’s Mount for future generations.

Flanking the Walled Garden are the East and West Terraces that provide the aspect and protection to grow succulents like aeoniums, aloes, echeverias and sempervivums all year round. Current gardener Lottie Allen, who’s leaving the island after five years to move to a National Trust property in the Cotswolds, told the BBC she “will miss everything about this job”. Perinatal and newborn complications are major risk factors for unfavorable fetal and neonatal outcomes. Gestational dating and growth monitoring can be instrumental in the identification and management of high-risk pregnancies and births. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the first known implementation study of these standards in a low resource setting.

Her relief was to be short-lived. As soon as Charles, now six months old, was born, Fiona and her partner Adam Boreham, from Portishead in Somerset, were told that their son had Down’s syndrome. He also had a hole in the heart and a faulty heart valve. I’d been led to believe that it was only mothers over the age of 35 who were at risk of having a Down’s baby. In fact, 80 per cent of Down’s babies are born to mothers under I wish I’d known that before. Despite a difficult start to her pregnancy, Fiona had been told there were no concerns over her baby’s health.

At four weeks, she appeared much bigger than average and it was suspected she might be having twins. When a scan revealed only one foetus, it was decided that Fiona had a ruptured cyst in the womb, but this would cause the baby no harm. Still worried about her unborn baby, at ten weeks Fiona decided to have a nuchal translucency scan. This measures the thickness of the back of the baby’s neck specifically to check for Down’s syndrome.

She was over- joyed when she was told she was in a low-risk category. At no time was she offered – or did she feel it necessary to ask for – a further test.

The first meeting with the midwife usually takes place in your local GP practice or health centre. Your community midwife will discuss options for pregnancy care, antenatal screening tests and scans and give you advice on lifestyle and how to maintain your health and wellbeing during your pregnancy. You can, if you wish, have some of your pregnancy care appointments with your GP.

If we find anything in your medical or previous pregnancy history then your midwife can refer you to an obstetrician for further disucssion. You also have the opportunity access an early pregnancy information class which provides you with additional information on all the different choices surrounding pregnancy. Whilst you are pregnant, every time you see your doctor or midwife they will be checking to make sure that everything is going well.

At each antenatal visit, the midwife will check you and your baby’s well being. This is called midwifery led care or sometimes you may hear it referred to as shared care. If at any point during your pregnancy either you or baby develop a problem, then you will be referred to the hospital to see an obstetrician for an opinion. If you are under midwifery led care, then you have a further choice in deciding where you would like to give birth to your baby. If you have any existing medical conditions or any problems are found, then you will see a doctor who will discuss a plan with you to make sure you and your baby remain safe.

The midwives and the hospital doctors would care for you and this is called consultant led care. Obstetricians are registered medical doctors who specialise in pregnancies and births which have become complicated.
