From now on Dota 2 players will have only one single MMR rank instead of the distribution into support and core ranks. To ensure well balanced games the ranked queues are still based on picking a role before you start a match.
Valve is planning on doing some matchmaking testing. Dota 2 devs explain why they’ll be turning off strict solo queues to go off of, the removal of the much-used feature may not be looked upon kindly by the community.

Valve Bans Over 40,000 Dota 2 Players For Abusive Matchmaking
Smurfing is when high ranked players make new accounts so that they can play in lower-skilled groups and destroy them. Many such players were banned without a reason and were locked out by Steam, which caused a huge uproar in the community. Also, reducing the active player count by 40, made the matchmaking much slower.
The friendliest DOTA 2 community for theory crafting and other DOTA 2 discussion. Quality matchmaking is a core component of an enjoyable Dota If a phone number is removed from an account after registration, a new skill component and the individual capability of the players on both teams.
Dota 2 just made a major changes in the Matchmaking focusing on improvement for all players including restoration of the Solo Queue and a new requirement before joining Ranked Matched and other adjustments. Players now have to register a unique phone number to their Steam account in order to play the Ranked Matches. This is to avoid players using multiple accounts in the game that create negative matchmaking experience at all MMR brackets, and their goal is to add a new measure to reduced spam and abuse players from joining the game.
Also, having an active primary account will have a positive effect on both Ranked and Unranked match in Dota 2. Starting today, all players has two weeks to comply with the new requirement. A phone number can also be removed in their account, but it takes three months to take effect the changes — this is to ensure and prevent abuse by using the same number in multiple accounts.
Valve update matchmaking for Dota 2
What that means is in any match that includes a player that has an MMR score of more than 7,, role selection will automatically be turned off. The point of this update is to improve the quality of high-rank matches by letting players who know the game and multiple positions freely pick heroes without worrying about being typecast into a specific role. Jeff Hill, a Valve employee, made sure to clarify what this change meant for the game when questions began popping up on the Dota 2 subreddit.
And, unlike the solo option, you do not need to turn on a setting to remove role select, it is done automatically when the game reaches the right benchmarks.
Valve released a new update for Dota 2 this Thursday, which will introduce some welcome changes to Dota 2 matchmaking, MMR system and ranked game modes. January 16, Valve revealed they are removing the variability in the news, features and writes other content related to the players, teams.
While VAC bans aren’t the focus of today’s story, they do demonstrate Valve’s no-nonsense approach to cheating and misbehavior in its games. Recently, this approach was further displayed when Valve opted to launch a wave of bans against “abusive” DOTA 2 players. The ban waves, among other things, were unveiled in a September 17 announcement post published by the DOTA 2 team, which has since been removed and subsequently preserved thanks to an archive.
The first ban wave affected players with “exceptionally low” behavior scores, and the second impacted those who bought or sold Steam accounts for the purposes of gaining a higher or lower matchmaking rank in DOTA 2. Other bans were dished out as well, for reasons that primarily relate but are not limited to cheating the matchmaking system. For example, some users would queue for one role but play another, which can rob a team of a much-needed support or tank hero.
In other cases, high-skilled or high-ranked players chose to create fresh accounts in order to “smurf” and effectively crush new or otherwise lower-skilled players. In addition to outright bans, Valve is making several changes to DOTA 2’s matchmaking systems and Ranked play requirements. To mitigate the smurfing issue, in particular, the company will require users to play hours before they can access Ranked play. That’s a steep requirement, but Valve hopes the change will allow its automated systems to catch high-skilled players with new accounts earlier, and place them in the appropriate matchmaking category before they become an issue.
As an additional precaution, Valve will require accounts to have a unique, valid phone number — this won’t stop the most dedicated smurfs out there, but it could slow them down. One of the more amusing, but not officially confirmed, aspects of this set of ban waves is the length of the bans themselves.
Dota 2 Gets Big Experimental Changes to Ranked Matchmaking
Dota 2 is played in matches between two teams of five players, with each team occupying and defending their own separate base on the map. Each of the ten players independently controls a powerful character, known as a “hero”, who all have unique abilities and differing styles of play. During a match, players collect experience points and items for their heroes to successfully defeat the opposing team’s heroes in player versus player combat.
A team wins by being the first to destroy the other team’s “Ancient”, a large structure located within their base. Development of Dota 2 began in when IceFrog , lead designer of Defense of the Ancients , was hired by Valve to create a modernized remake for them in the Source game engine. It was officially released for Microsoft Windows , OS X , and Linux -based personal computers via the digital distribution platform Steam in July , following a Windows-only open beta phase that began two years prior.
We are committed to making matchmaking as good as it can be. matches will always be either against a team of all five solo players or against As a result of removing this mechanism, and the star count re-scale, we are.
Valve unveiled the newest update directed towards Dota 2 matchmaking system, which has been hit with several updates in recent months, with the most recent making some much-needed changes to the scaling MMR based on relative skill and the ranked game modes. Valve explained that they decided for this move because they believe players who play solo have much greater impact on the way the game is played, compared to those who enter ranked matches in a party, and will for that reason award the solo players with the ability to climb the ladder faster, while players who play in a party will see their MMR increase at a slower pace.
That is, however, something that works in theory, will that translate into the real games, however, remains to be seen. The Ranked Roles will from now on be “locked” behind a so-called ticket system. Previously, the players earned the fast queues by selecting every role, meaning they could be assigned to play any of the five roles.
Now, the Dota 2 players will earn four Ranked Roles games when selecting all the positions and will be eligible to play Ranked Roles if they pick two support boxes. Ranked Classic, which does not let you select any roles, on the other side, will replace the Slow Queue games.
Game Modes are options which apply a set of rules to a match of Dota 2. They can be used to vary the style of hero selection, hero availability, and gameplay. A match can only have one style of Hero Picking. Players may also swap heroes with team mates after picking, during the time before lane creeps spawn. Every day 12 heroes are randomly selected.
In another attempt to improve Dota 2’s matchmaking, Valve dropped an update one, this time to completely remove role selection in high-rank games. This will let teams swap lanes, pick more unique strategies, and better.
Strict matchmaking is a setting that allows solo players to only queue into games against other solo players when play in ranked playlists. Players often choose to enable this kind of matchmaking to avoid loading into games with parties. In the game, parties receive bonus MMR to compensate for the coordination they receive from working together, with all skill and experience values aggregated together. This leads to many players wanting to just play with other solo-queued grinders, due to partied players sometimes having a different level of motivation to their solo teammates.
Valve believe this choice-based separation of players entering into games alone or partied up has seen a spike in matchmaking times, as well as a reduction in the overall balance of skill in games, and are testing to see if the two are linked. I will still test it out, but I’m afraid solo queue might just be dead for me and a lot of others going forward.
Dota 2 matchmaking update removes MMR gain/loss variance
Matchmaking is the process through which the system groups players into opposing teams for public games modes. With the exception of bot games, matchmaking is mostly determined by matchmaking ratings MMR. Unranked or casual games do not display matchmaking ratings and still doesn’t track your MMR for solo and party queues. This function matches you against another player in the Mid Lane. This match is over when one player dies twice, loses a tower, resigns or disconnects.
Dota 2 will require players to link a phone number to their accounts to participate in in an unpleasant and uncompetitive experience for both teams.” India and Dubai have been removed as ranked matchmaking regions.
This reduces the chances of high-skilled players getting matched up with low-skilled players and increases the chances of having a better game compared to regular matchmaking public games. Regular matchmaking also makes use of the same MMR system. The MMR will only be visible to you and your friends after the calibration phase consisting of your first 10 games in ranked matchmaking.
